Darzah: Stitching Heritage, Uplifting Voices, and Standing with Palestine

At Darzah, our mission is rooted in more than design and craft—it is built on resilience, preservation, and justice. Our work centers around the ancient Palestinian embroidery art of Tatreez, while empowering the women who carry this tradition forward despite living through displacement, conflict, and occupation.

The Heart of Darzah: Women, Tatreez, and Heritage

Tatreez is a centuries-old form of cross-stitch embroidery, passed from mother to daughter across generations of Palestinian women. Each motif tells a story—of land, lineage, and love. Traditionally, women embroidered their thobes (dresses) with patterns that reflected their village, social status, and life events. Today, Tatreez remains one of the most powerful and visible forms of Palestinian cultural expression.

At Darzah, we honor this tradition by working directly with women artisans in the West Bank, ensuring every product we create is 100% handmade, fair trade, and ethically sourced. In doing so, we don't just preserve Tatreez; we provide dignified employment opportunities for women in areas with high rates of unemployment and economic marginalization.

Creating Amidst Crisis: The Situation in Palestine

To speak of Darzah without acknowledging the current situation in Palestine would be incomplete. Our artisans create under occupation—in communities where access to electricity, clean water, medical care, and safety is uncertain. From Jenin to Gaza, our women have faced military raids, airstrikes, and restrictions on movement. Yet, they continue to stitch.

Despite adversity, they show up with steady hands and determined hearts, weaving stories of endurance into every thread. Tatreez becomes more than art. It is a form of cultural resistance, a testament to Palestinian identity, and a way to say: We are still here.

Our Impact So Far

Over the years, Darzah has:
  • Provided consistent employment to dozens of Palestinian women in refugee camps and rural areas.

  • Helped revive endangered Tatreez motifs and traditional stitching methods.

  • Created global awareness of Palestinian art and craftsmanship through international features, including on platforms like Netflix's "Mo".

  • Partnered with organizations such as Heal Palestine to support urgent aid initiatives, especially during Ramadan and times of crisis.

Every bag, shoe, or apron you purchase from Darzah supports not just a craft, but a cause.
